To let Synapse notebooks retrieve secrets from Key Vault by using the managed identity, the identity must first be authorized on the Key Vault itself. After that, Synapse Studio uses a Key Vault linked service so activities/notebooks can reference the vault. Microsoft Learn�s sequence is explicit: grant the managed identity access to the vault, then create a linked service to Azure Key Vault. Granting RBAC on the Synapse workspace does not satisfy the requirement to read secrets from kv1.
